Azed’s cluing is always so precise that the results of the wordplay, however obscure, are unambiguous. That was true of my answer to 1d (which also fitted with the crossers). But it was a two word phrase I couldn’t find in Chambers - or anywhere else. If there was any mistake, I’m very sure it was mine!

It's in Chambers under the headword for the first part of a (5,5) singular form of which the answer is the (6,6) plural.
