I'd describe it as a double definition

Yes agreed it is double definition. It is describing two things that can be the answer. Whereas in &lit every word in the clue has two functions. Like terribly angered? (7) which is enraged. Terribly is the anagrind and angered is the fodder but if you are enraged you are terribly angered. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks Bowergirl; yes, that does make sense. Although I usually associate double definition clues as being just a couple of words, like 'Village play' - Hamlet.
I'll try and be more aware of this type of DD clue in future!
