Take over the mark set by Aristophanes’ early lead. (8)

( Aristophanes is reputedly the originator of the colon. Using the apostrophe to do double duty as “ is” and aid the surface)

There’s been a mere four-hour time difference between the UK and here for a couple of weeks; makes it feel closer. Some real corkers on offer. Here we go.
