Regarding the "risque' nature of 19d, I think that Brummie (as Cyclops) sets the Private Eye crossword) which might explain it ;-)

Haven't quite finished yet, but fairly quick so far - perhaps because I did the Eye one yesterday so am still tuned in to Cyclops/Brummie!

Reading the clues in order, FOI was 22a, but it speeded up after that.

A couple of queries - and I may have the answers wrong:
5a parses perfectly, but why "refuse" (however stressed!)?
18a I see the first 4 letters, but can't parse the rest.

Hi Chrise. Try parsing 18 as 2 1 1 1 1 6. Hope that helps!

chrise - it’s quite a bit of a stretch, but stuff recovered by someone from another’s refuse can be described as 5a.

nobody seems to have had trouble with 12 ... would someone kindly explain it?

Very grateful for the 28a spoilers. I know many sweet wines but not being especially well read I had not heard of that one. A few other words I had to Google but all very solvable. 19 is above and beyond Pauline I would say. That's a post watershed word but a good clue all the same.

Thanks Brummie for a great puzzle.

COD plenty but I'm going for 5d.

Happy Saturday all.

Hi Prospero, central letter (derived from ‘with’) removed from (actor) Atkinson gives the horse.
