h1982 - thanks. I'd completely misunderstood the wordplay so was focussed on the last few letters of the solution minus the unclued letter. I can see it now.

I have a completed grid, the period and the instruction but struggling to understand the decimal coordinates part at the moment - hoping for the magic of posting working.

All done now thanks to a google conversion engine. Thankfully a very short grid stare needed for the 8,7 description and 5,5 name.

Really struggling to see how to follow the instruction from the missing letters. Any hints gratefully received

Your instruction should read (9, 4, 5, 1, 8, 5) and be fairly straightforward once you’ve done the necessary erasing

Goodness, I made that hard for myself by not reading the preamble carefully. All done now, thanks Karla - I have learned something new today.

Mandyrob, I put the numbers I had into latlong.net. It will appear in the middle of an uninhabited area, but where it is is essential.

Apologies, misunderstood your query.

Numbering the columns and rows according to the preamble and then noting where the missing letters are in the grid (in the order noted in the preamble) should give you a set of numbers (with decimal points according to preamble (2.4 and 3.6) totalling 15 to match the 15 letters removed).

As others have noted, these coordinates will take you to where you need to look

Hi H1982 - I was okay with the coordinates it's the instruction from the long message that I couldn't figure out. I.e. where to put it so to speak!!
