OK I've just realised what I meant with 5 - "Give the bird" = express disapproval

Paul. "Bird" was CP's nickname and "axe" in jazzy circles is a saxophone, so that gives you the definition. Perhaps improbably, Charlie is the name for a fox according to Chambers, and Parker is the pen. Hope that makes somer sort of sense.

Hi paul, bird his nickname, while axe (or ax) suggests a guitar it originally referred to the saxophone. Worth looking at the last definition of Charlie¹ in Chambers ...
