Can anybody explain the wordplay of 16 down please? The clue is - "Macaque hurries with opponents coming up" (6)

I have the answer RHESUS which is the macaque. The wordplay should be using the word RUSHES (=hurries) but this implies that US should move down the answer. Why?

You have the right idea, but in this case, instead of the US moving down, you can move the final ES up to achieve the same effect. And E and S are opponents at bridge

Actually that doesn’t account for the position of the H, so it doesn’t work. I wonder if it’s an error in the clue
