Quick question, regarding the following clue:

Drivers with pets turning up in flashy motor (6,3)

Answer: Sports car

I understand a flashy motor is a sports car. That said, how does the rest of the clue work?

I think Drivers are the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) and STROPS are pets as in sulks, so reverse all that, assuming it’s a down clue, I.e, turning up, and you have it

Drivers = RAC

Pets = STROP (as in fit of pique etc.)

all reversed/turning up
