Wonderful puzzle. Many thanks to eXternal.

If anyone can let me know why it’s been called Sausage Competition, without giving too much away, I’d appreciate it, just so I can feel it’s fully done!

H1982, re the title: what's the name of the "event"?!

This has been a mesmerising puzzle but I need help with just 3 clues to enable me to get to your level please. I have wiggled everything in except for
1. Tailor cutting cloth apt for gift
2. Most shivering badly inside rough bunker
3. Academy diminished with no instruction for oboe player (2 words)
Each clue has a redundant word and all are 8 letters.
I’ve got so far I can’t bear not to complete what has been so challenging - and fun.
I do have some letters in place but hesitate to offer them here until someone helps me out.

jogamel, hints - (1) "tailor" is a verb, the letter-count will reveal the redundant word; (2) as you wouldn't speak "badly" of the dead?; (3) short educational establishment + "no" musical instruction - but not for an oboist.

What an endgame. Wasn't sure I was still on the right track, but when the extra competitor (unheard of before) appeared, I knew I'd done it. Thanks eXternal for a very satisfying conclusion.

Need help with final bit of endgame. Letters I have to reorder are HONOURPIE. Am I right?
