Has anyone done this crossword? Have finished but stuck on interpreting the circled cells and how they need to be changed. All I can think of is the cells represent a date as in the title . Thanks in advance.

Keep going with the date thought. What's the most famous thing to have happened (regarding England at least) in that year?

It's in a bit of a nonstandard format with lots of Vs and only one I. You're a decade and a bit too early.
