I could not find unique answers to the unclueds in the SE corner so went for what seemed the most common of the options (thereby avoiding one typically convoluted Spenserian construction). Did I miss some more clever way of resolving the ambiguities?
No, Jack, the ambiguities seem par for the course! I resolved that corner - just to suit myself- but also have a choice for an entry in the top left corner.
According to the word search function in my Chambers app there are 4 possibilities for 31d, two for 30d and two for 3d. However, only one choice for each is a common word and that's surely what Doc had in mind. Still, don't edit your own puzzles....
Please forgive me for going off-topic, but could anyone point me in the direction of a site or software that can generate the barred grids used in the Speccie crosswords? I e-mailed the competition site a week ago, but have not had a reply.
Steve,
If it’s just barred grid design you are looking for then this tool may be of interest to you. I’ve not used it extensively so can’t comment on the full functionality.
