Have a lot cold solved but no idea how to start gridding with any certainty.

If someone could kindly let me know how the first row is gridded, that would help a lot. Is it 8, space, 5 or does the blank cell appear within my answer to 1Ac? If so, does it appear neatly through the middle of 1Ac (4, space, 4)? I’m hoping, if I get the first row done, that’ll get my perimeter done and then I can start fitting things in…

The grid is laid out per the specified lengths. One of the PDMs is how that works with the short answers. Another one is how it works with the long ones.

Blimey, what a crossword! Some of cluing was very tough, still can't guess what 'Eck is thinking in the 247 clue. X factor clue was the last one I worked out.
