Regards the 3rd of those letters - it comes before those other 2 and is an across clue.

Yes. Perhaps that's just a US term.

Interesting that we had one just two weeks ago concerning a mark.

I think the fact that MARK is printed in capitals suggests that those four letters are to be entered in the grid and, if you accept that, it's, I venture, pretty obvious where.

I agree with Will. After completing the grid to it's utmost using the clued entries, fairly sure it becomes apparent.

I think MARK alludes cryptically to the protagonist. However, I am failing to understand what else to do. The unclued light which is not a word presumably stays as it is. I suppose I am meant to resort to a grid stare to ind a way of alluding to MARK and the subject's elevation. Sigh!

I think I can see how to highlight MARK without affecting letters in clued entries, but it is all a bit feeble. However, I fail to see what this has to do with elevation, other than the fact that some letters are at the top of the grid and most are not.

OK, so the subject has been 'elevated' from role X to role Y. That will have to do, but I would not be surprised if this were another 'hare' - a matter of 'guess what I am thinking'.
