The theme...
Requests for help towards the theme may also be made here. The 'help' given should be a nudge, a pointer in the right direction - just enough to assist a struggling solver, and definitely not anything that would spoil the puzzle for others. Getting 17 specific correct clashes in exactly the right 17 places is a piece of setting of a very high order. While the clues may be Januarily on the kind side (got to get solvers off to a good start) the construction deserves much higher praise than the somewhat grudging.
