I still don't see the wp for the second down clue despite the previous hints. Any not-so-gentle hints would be appreciated please. Many thanks

Could someone please help me parse ‘Meat pans on the counter (4)’? The answer is clear and fits the definition, but I can’t come close to the wordplay.
