I think it's a Biblical allusion, but that would be an adjective and the clue implies a noun

The biblical word is given as a noun by Chambers. How closely it equates to sarcasm is open to question.

The answer is biblical but as a noun (per Chambers) it means “something bitter”, so sarcasm perhaps?
