Yes agreed, it does require a bit of a leap. I have a vague recollection of him being described as such, but to be honest I just biffed it and then did some googling ;)

I'm struggling with the bottom right hand corner. For example, 29A I have cross clues of Y _ _ _ A but I can't come up with any words which remotely fit the clue.
Have I gone wrong with those, or else what have I missed?

Calmword, it's always good to give the clues - then those without a copy can try to help.

Just in case the googling didn't clarify, the clue is referring to his daughter, Marine, and she definitely fits the label.
