Good morning, Compers....whiling away the hours before the Mags kick off at home to the mighty Wigan today, I find myself puzzled as to why the solution to:
8a: One putting the frighteners on soldier out of condition (9)
T _ R _ _ _ I _ _
would appear to be "TERRORIST".
I'd be grateful to be put out of my misery, please.

.......& while I am at at....at risk of outstaying my welcome, could anyone also explain why the solution to:
10D: Protest about Tim's initial allowance after battle (13)
appears to be "TEMPORISATION", which I know can mean 'to negotiate for time to sort stuff out after a battle' but fail to see where the 'EMPORISATION' part of the answer comes from, after Tim's initial 'T'.

I think the answer to 10d is REMONSTRATION - this fits with the cross letters.

RE = about MONS= battle T+RATION
