I have a full grid, the theme, the night time answers and have done all my highlights but can't for the life of me see how the day time clues work. Any pointers?

Anagram a piece of the clue so that the wordplay actually works.

Thanks Buddy, I guessed it was something like that but hadn't found any examples. I'll have another look in the morning.

They are not anagrammed, but woven together in a thematic way. If you have the highlighted extras, think of what one of them did at night to the other two.

Some of the 'woven' clues are quite tricky. The one that got me going was 9d. which from 3, 8 becomes 5, 6 for the clue's wordplay to work

I have completed 90% of this grid and I have no idea what is going on. The preamble makes no sense to me, there seems to be another theme (related to a composer) in the solutions, and there seem to be some clues with no definitions, including one where the answer I have is my username :)

The preamble says that two clues have no definitions, (you mention one) and together they should give you the theme.
