CLUELESS 653
653 AD was the year that Talorgan (son of Eanfrith, son of Aethelfrith, son of Aethelric, son of Ida, son of Eoppa, son of Esa, son of Ingui, son of Angenwit, son of Aloc, son of Benoc, son of Brand, son of Baeldaeg, son of Woden) was crowned king of the Picts. So says the
Anglo-Saxon Chronicle.
Welcome to Clueless, our informal weekly clue setting competition. The idea is to compose a cryptic clue to a given word or phrase. The winner of the previous week's competition both sets the word to be clued and judges the entries for the current week. The judge's decision is final and reasons may or may not be given at the judge's discretion. It is customary for the judge to donate a virtual prize to the winner.
Multiple entries may be submitted and new competitors are particularly welcome. Feel free to give an explanation if you think it might help. Clues should be submitted by 6:00 pm (UK time) on Wednesday October 18th.
Those with lawns and trees are no doubt beginning to deal with:
LEAF (4) or
LEAVES (6) or
FOLIAGE (7)
Good luck!
Future setters should note that a complete list of previously used words on Clueless, Peer Review and Weekend Peer Review is available at
