Thanks to the “espiègle dectet” who entered this week’s challenge. A great selection of clues on display, which were, as always, very difficult to choose between.

One hidden from Buddy cutting four words which is always good.

Pleasantly surprised that Mattrom found a Spoonerism, as I thought about it, but “nisse” never occurred to me.

A very nice compound anagram from Geeker. Fyi, unusually, for the midweek cryptics, I noticed one in the FT today.

Some nice interpretations of the female “miss”. I especially liked Chris’s “miserly young lady” and Dorrien’s “girl next door”.

Anagrams yielded the single word “seminars” from Buddy, “rain mess” from Geeker, Paul’s “NS armies”, PaulH’s “marines s”. Baccy’s “submarine” was crafty if little too indirect for me.

Of the charade/constructions I liked Mattrom’s Aramis, Buddy’s athletics fixture and Aristo’s G-Man.

However, I’ve decided to go with the simple and elegant this week.

Bronze goes to Chris@3, Silver to Darla@18…

…and by a whisker the winner is Dorrien@23 with…

Close shave for the girl next door? (4,4)

Congratulations Dorrien, here is the prize (some day we may run out of MP clips, but that day is not today)…

Cheers all

Well done, dorrien, very neat, and thanks, jono.

paul @11

Timeline on Monday evening:
2308 - 'I am about to enter Clueless with 'Close encounter for armies moving in opposite directions'(4, 4). I check for similar ideas already entered - all ok.
2309 Partner asks me to check next day's weather forecast. Switch websites then return to Clueless.
2311 Final check for pre-emptive clues. GRR! There it is, paul@11, timed at 2310. Guess others have had similar experiences.

Peer Review following, but I am required to go for a walk first.

Very well done Dorrien; and great review jono.

Some absolute crackers submitted this week.

PS bigmarty's clue for SCROOGE was more than a match for Sunday's Everyman offering, I thought.
