Came to this seeking relief from the Listener- I just don’t seem to get on the wavelength there. Will persevere later.

This was much more forthcoming, albeit the pdm about the “nonsensical” unclued entries took just a wee while.

Jadzia, Re 31a. Chambers has 'to say further' for ADD. I'm not sure about the payment - A + an abbreviation for Direct Debit?

I took the 'small' part to indicate the abbreviation, DD, rather thsn Direct Debit.

Like Malone, I took “small” as an abbreviation indicator (for direct debit), so “dd”. I don’t think the use of “A” at the start of the clue would have passed the editor unless it serves to provide the other letter of “add”.

Apologies, posted too soon. I intended also to say that if the answer had been “and”, the clue would probably have ended with a question mark rather than an exclamation mark.
