buddy@38

I've heard all of them except "jamocha". Have only heard "jamoke" as Boston slang for "guy" - first in George V. Higgins novels, and then from a MA native. But now I see where it comes from.

Most of those coffee terms I picked up from reading detective fiction. I suspect you may have read a few hard-boiled crime novels as well.

I intended to enter a clue derived from the Everton football team (Toffees), but the thought occurred after the deadline. Wouldn't have gotten any votes, but being American I was slightly proud of the idea. šŸ¤£

Sorry to miss the voting. I am very busy with cottage closing.
Congrats Darla on a great clue. Thanks Baccanal for the great job at the helm.

Congrats Darla, well deserved. Thanks Baccy for a good challenge and cheers all for votes. Iā€™m sure ā€˜country clubā€™ has been done before, most likely as an indication for EU.

Does anyone remember a discussion we had concerning ā€œagoutiā€? I donā€™t think it was the word clued but it came up in a previous challenge I recall. Mattrom may remember. Anyway, I was amused to see it pop up again today.

I don't remember any discussion of "agouti", but I recall it as being fairly common in old New York Times crosswords (the days with Weng and Maleska as editors; I switched to cryptics shortly after Shortz took over). Maybe even American-style puzzles in general.

Thanks, buddy, paul, jono, and geeker for votes, and special thanks to ChrisE and PaulH for the big first place votes. Thank you also to bacchanal for hosting and the prize. Ironically perhaps, I'm not a fan of Starbucks coffee. Many others I prefer.

And, Paul, actually I just ordered a new dress before checking in here. Hi, I'm Darla, and I'm a shopoholic.

Well done, darla. 'Fellow' never occurred to me as I got sidetracked by the many meanings of 'off'.

Thanks to my voters and to bacchanal for a well organised competition.
