Thanks to Cranberry for an excellent puzzle. Some chewy clues and a theme that many will recall - with a definite sense of appropriate emotion - once the penny has dropped.

As to how to approach solving, I can only echo the effort of the protester which appears first in the grid as described in the preamble.

Hi Jack,

Haven't finished yet but have spotted the theme and am downloading the 'protest' at this very moment which I will watch over breakfast:-)

The timing of this is either very ironic or an unbelievable coincidence, given that the writer is currently both protesting and being protested against.

I hope Cranberry let's us know which it is - either way, a terrific puzzle and a great laugh:-)

Catching up mode again. Thanks to Cranberry for a fab puzzle. I have just dug out the box set. Luckily, Mrs bobbycollins is also a big fan. I remember being in The Lake District when we heard of the sad death of
the eponymous protagonist.
