Success for various types including Queen and Empress.

I'm presuming types is an anagram , possibly Queen=R but if so not a clue on Empress. Any explanation gratefully received.

For = PRO + what you said - anagram of TYPES and R for queen.

The RI stands for Regina et Imperatrix, Latin.

The same abbreviaiton can be used for King and Emperor - Rex et Imperator.

Thanks, Brendan. I'd been annoyed that I couldn't see how the clue worked. I checked I, on its own, and that didn't help - then I suddenly thought to look up RI. I was pleased to find it, it was new to me.

Need to remember that one. RI would be quite useful, not least in the current Peer Review (embraced by a cad all reversed? - too late!)

Ys, Jono, some new abbreviations could liven up a few puzzles! I've liked seeing King = CR now, though it's maybe going to be too useful, then too familiar.
