Is there a misprint in 12 down? Should it not read "Cooked turmeric not IN [rather than 'an'] important part of diet" (13)?

I take it back. I should have checked in a more up-to-date dictionary!

I have ?are?n? assuming my answer to 28a is the 2020 winner.

Davidpe, I think you might have a mistake in 31A, leading you to an incorrect letter in what you've listed. Your 28 A is fine. The unclued entry you're missing is one of the very well-know ones.
