I too thought it related to the thirteen.

In 1d "take "rings" as a verb.
16d - I said earlier, the whole lot do come in 14s, but the second word by itself in 13s.

Hi despite hints below I can't for the life of me get 6,24. Can anyone help further without trying to spoil it too much for others.

I'm waiting for a plane at Jersey airport and just revisited the forum because I was having issues still with parsing some clues.

So, 1d I had the singular better known item of tableware. The plural in the clue is key. Which meant I had 11a wrong also. Then, realised I had a different VW car as the first word in 16d which is why I couldn't parse that either. Which meant I had the wrong wood for 21a.

All because the Android app gives you a green tick whatever you fill in. Thanks for the late posts on here which got me on the straight and narrow.
