Thanks to Inkling for an elegant puzzle. And thanks to Ginge for clarifying the parsing of one of the apparently easy but unexpectedly complex clues.

All done. But can't parse 23d. Even when I know extra letter.
Two easy ones this weekend, don't know how to keep myself amused now!

A san(atorium) is a hospital.

For completeness, could somebody please offer a hint towards getting the first letter of 13d 'Mixes old local honeys' (4)?

It's hard to hint towards a single letter... If you were going to browse through Chambers, you'd stop halfway through the alphabet. (And that word with an extra letter in it is an old word for 'mixes,combines..')
