A quick thank you to Eclogue for a gentler puzzle than this week’s Listener (I for one needed a breather!) and one which raised a smile and some fond memories.

I greatly enjoyed this puzzle, which as you say was a gentle affair compared to The Listener, but I remain baffled by the wordplay-only answers. I can see exactly what is to be entered but in none of the five have I been able to discern the answer nor its thematic relationship to the entry. Maybe posting this will work its inevitable magic!

If you're still wondering, piffleworthy, the one for 11d is straightforward.

Try Googling the refrain given by the extra letters, Piffleworthy. I am antique enough to have it fixed in my head so the penny dropped very quickly.
