WORST ( cream ) ED ( ElasticateD, end letters of ).
How does worst =cream, please?
No one has queried it in the comments so must be blindingly obvious to all but me.

As verbs they both mean to defeat

Oh dear -double failure. Never thought of cream in that sense and never thought of worst to mean defeat .

…it’s curious that “to better” and “to worst” mean the same thing :-)
