Don’t know if anyone else encountered this:
2 down in today’s Times
Artist succeeded, getting on towards the top (5)

I had an answer beginning with M and got stuck. Then I came up with the correct answer beginning with D

Both French artists - both impressionists!

i can see the d one, but would need the m one explaining!

The M one came first to me.
‘met’ as succeeded with on inserted near the top.
Not as good as the D but plausible

i see your point, william - the m one does work, though the d one is better. met for succeeded is a little loose.

Agree with you both - but a mistake on my part that held me up on a nice afternoon in North Norfolk!
