bobbycollins - while nfl is something of a red herring, googling the words shown by the clashes (which are nfl-related) along with hero gave me the pdm amongst the first few results.

Get the “incorrections” right (which is not an easy task in my experience) and the resulting villain suggests a potential “clashing” hero which, at first, produces a “surely not!” response. Swiftly followed by a revelation on Google that is less a PDM than it is more of a “Jings, Crivvens and Help Ma Boab!” moment. (The Beano reference is not a spoiler.)

Thanks, both. drxx steered me to the individual - nasty sounding bugger, and thus to the hero who I have placed in the grid. Not a clue what to enter in the perimeter!!

I seem to recall the video for the Queen song that had the perimeter quotation?

Look at the SW corner of the perimeter and something of a message to which the hero might be expected to respond may come to mind. Google will then give you the rest.

Finally over the line - what a marvellous construction. But, Jack Aubrey, Oor Wullie, not the Beano.
