Big thanks to the ever reliable Chalicea for another great puzzle.

Can I just check whether the highlighting is just the 7 letter "tall" object, or is there more?

Help to finish please, I have all the thematic stuff, but no word to fit 12a.
Explosive acted with no limits, left following trial. (6)
I may have 6d wrong, as cannot parse but definition seems good.

Lumen, the C is dropped from 'acted', then the 'no limits' tells you which 2 letters you need. These are followed by a normal three-letter 'trial' (noun, and the usual Left.

Thanks Malone. I did have 6d wrong. (Two very similar words, same definition).

Thanks, Lumen, glad that helped.

PS Fine though Inquisitor was, today's EV was much more fun!

Many thanks to Chalicea. Given my past life, I particularly enjoyed this one. (You’d think the person who gave the reaction was pretty imperturbable but he was so nervous about proposing to his first wife that he got his future mother-in-law to do it on his behalf.)

Thanks, Jack. It was related to my 'past life' too - the event happened on my birthday and I briefly worked with the offspring of two of the figures mentioned in the grid (including the one who had that reaction).

Belated thanks to Chalicea for a splendid puzzle - a bit trickier than her normal offerings, but nonetheless enjoyable for that!
