Regarding 9a, it occurs to me that at the end of that particular government a note was left in the Treasury for the incoming administration which read something along the lines of “Sorry, there is no money”. Great clue!

Paul NZ I was unaware that gorse could ever be a problem till I visited NZ farming rellies some years ago and saw how it grows rampant there - generally confined to moorland in UK.

A nice doable Everyman - mainly 11a for me. I enjoyed the humour of 4d - made me chuckle. 3d is also rather fine as others have said - nice misdirect there.

Could you explain 26a to me without giving the whole game away? I've got the right answer (I think) and see the reference to 'cups' therein, but I'm completely flummoxed as to how you end up with the final six letters.

It's one of those days when reading that others found this easy makes me feel rather dense! Finally got there, my LOI was 25a which I overthank for ages!

Just finished this enjoyable puzzle.

26a had me stumped for ages. It was LOI. But when it clicked, it made me laugh out loud. So that's my COD.

Must be a wavelength thing for after weeks of failing to get anywhere near a finish even when others found it straightforward, I wrote this in even though suffering from a hangover .
