Thank you, Skylark. Not over-taxing but full of interest and good fun. For a while, the few letters I had from the across clues persuaded me that I was looking for works by Monteverdi. A little way off-beam!

I have 51 cells highlighted?
Only one (an L) doing double-service.

I'm struggling to find the 3rd title - i have one at the top and one at the bottom. Can someone give me a hint please.

It's one of the 12-letter answers.

Andyp, I found the 3rd one in the list of titles of a revue with the same title of the bottom one. (It included the top one too).

I enjoyed the puzzle and grinned a bit as the letters in the across clues came into focus. The puzzle title is rather neat too.

Okay, I'm obviously losing the plot.

No matter how many times I count, I keep getting 51 cells not 50 - I know one of the letters in his name also appears in one of the titles and also that one title is spelt without the usual G at the end

I've got 16 for the top one, 12 in the 2nd minus letter already used in name = 11 and 14 in the bottom one + 10 in the name.

Where am I going wrong?
