Nifty puzzle. I don’t get “semi” for “round” in 18A though. Does it refer to ammunition? Thanks, syzzie and sunray.

I had qualms about that "semi", but, after some thought, was able to justify it via "near" being a synonym of both "round" ( = "around") and "semi".
