There are 2 appearances, but they're not 6th word.
I have the same issue with reading the second word ''unjumbled row by row'', but how can it be done without skipping some rows (it's shorter than the length of the grid)? But I have copied the word across in the same arrangement as before, so that a particular letter doesn't appear too soon.
My outlines are 6th word, and they contain the non-6th word gaps (my outlines don't go to the edges). All ensuing gaps are within original (6th word) bars and real words are formed - apart from the shaded area (but that is referred to as a 'light' in the preamble).
I'm no mathematician - I don't like maths or maths puzzles, so take it all with a hefty pinch of salt.

I thought this was full of great clues and very much enjoyed working out all the missing/extra letters, grid placements, finding the quote, etc But like others, finding the end-game a little frustrating and can't help but think I'm missing something? Assuming the original person's name is removed and replaced in the "Intersection", presumably he still "turns up" to enable a reading of the 2nd word "row-by-row", though that still seems a little random? And the members of each set are curiously restricted, suggesting they may have some significance beyond just being distinct ("emotiveness" is the best I can come up with for one set, if that makes sense)? But despite those frustrations, still hugely enjoyable thanks Vismut :-)

andyp - Yes, there's an extra 'e' in that one (for the minus 'e' how about 'Model in return...' or 'One in Aberdeen...' or 'Escorted to joust...'?).

For quite a while I've harboured the idea that Vismut is one of the very few crossword setters without a degree in maths (it's come as a bit of a blow to find I'm probably mistaken}.
