Thank you Ionexch. I have a completed grid but am now struggling to identify two adjectives from selected letters. If anyone gets what is needed please give me a shove in the right direction.

Thank you muralist. I am struggling with all the letters that precede the thematic letter. Is 10d a hint as to what I need to find out.

Have you looked at the thematic letter in the clues, jogamel, not the entries?

Why are the thematic letters Roman numerals? Do the adjectives make any difference? Why can't the setter make the preamble clearer? Not having a go at you, Muraria, and well done if you've worked it all out, but I can't see what Roman numerals have to do with anything, apart from a Pope.

Sorry biggus I was trying to reduce the number of thematic letter options to look for but I seem to have confused things. The single thematic letter common to the clues just happens to be a Roman numeral. The letters preceding the thematic letter in the clues spell out two adjectives (11, 6)

I have a full grid, and I have the two adjectives, but the penny remains undropped. What am I missing? And the significance of 1800? This worried Arsenal fan doesn't need any more stress.
