If you use the Chambers app on a phone or other device you may have noticed that word hyperlinking had stopped working. Well, Champers has just released an update which fixes the problem so worth checking you have the latest update installed.

Hi jono. I’d never even thought to look for a Chambers app, but now I’m interested. Do you think it’s worth getting? And the thesaurus too?
I’m probably going to take the plunge anyway, the reviews look pretty good, but if you have time to share your thoughts, that’d be good.
All the best.

Hi Davel,

If I can jump in here - yes, the dictionary app is definitely worth buying. In addition to the usual features, it has a function whereby you can put ?'s in place of unknown letters and it will show you all possible outcomes.

I've also got the thesaurus app but, while it is useful, it's not as good as the dictionary app IMHO.

Indeed, good to see you back Brendan!

On the other question, I find the thesaurus useful as a way of searching for synonyms which aren’t necessarily part of the dictionary definition. You can click on any word in a dictionary entry and go straight to the thesaurus entry and vice versa.

Also, in search, you can use the same ? * # @ characters available in other free search apps but in the knowledge this will only return entries from Chambers.

And “The Word Lover’s Miscellany” is linked in the help menu which is an interesting read!
Have fun!

I use the dictionary and thesaurus on my phone BUT, if you're familiar with the CD version of Chambers (ie. on your PC), just be warned that the 'Full Text' option on the CD version isn't available on the phone app. Otherwise, it's just the same.

Thanks all, much appreciated. Got the dictionary, don’t think it will be long before I get the thesaurus too, only another fiver.
I’ve started doing Azeds now, I had 1d left from last week which the dictionary app sorted out for me! I’m delighted!
