Thanks Apt. An excellent puzzle with some tricky clues and it took a few readings of the preamble to understand why my 4&2 was in fact the 5&3. The end game and the final grid are extremely pleasing.

yes - enjoyed this. When i first read the preamble it looked like it was going to be nasty, esp as there are missing letters (i find those harder than extra letters) - however this one was a good level of challenge and came together nicely at the end.
