I still have some loose ends to tie up but I have identified the poem, although I don't think I found it as easy as many seem to have - still, who doesn't enjoy a challenge:-)

Eventually, the penny dropped, and I have the poem / poet. But I have one letter left to find. Any hints for 26A?

Sorry. I forget to say please! I assume the answer is a river, but there are quite a few that fit with my first and last letters, and I can't match it to the poem.

Pendragon, yes to river. A word for *, * with two subtractions

26a) Synonym for but( first *) minus c( caught) and minus pt(point)- name of a river

Agreed! It's a doozy of a crossword and very enjoyable. I am though struggling with the wordplay of 11a. I'm convinced I have the answer but can't seem to move the bits around to my ultimate satisfaction. The only clue I haven't yet done (and which is driving me nuts) is 24d. Hints gladly received!

24d. Two letters “*” and two letters “sailor”. The rest is the definition

Try solving the cryptic, and look up the unlikely-seeming result in Chambers.
