I would like to add that I realise I am way behind most people who post on here, but I am trying to learn more every week. I can accept that there are subjects which I will never understand, but I get very annoyed with myself when it’s a case of not understanding cryptic constructions….

Jogamel, I think you're being tough on yourself! You're not way behind most people here - I've seen you finish puzzles before I (and no doubt others) have.

There are many subjects, themes, which I will never understand (or want to understand), but I try not to let that stop me!

I enjoyed this v much. I did have to go back and spend some time finding letters in the trios to complete the name and title, even when I knew what I was looking for. Some very clever clue construction - 3d and 8d were my last ones to parse. Very devious!

I think the 3 letters in brackets need to be removed before solving.

I have the answer but just cannot see the wordplay - I've gone down the "number of theatres" as something that numbs, but to no avail and also put the answer into the Chambers app with an * at both ends - but still nothing!

In the 4-letter word for theaters, there is only one letter that is a Roman numeral; decrease it by 90% to get the word for olive genus

Still having a go at this - with a mostly complete grid . Just to check please - does the ‘12 sets of 3’ just refer to 3 consecutive clues done 12 times over ? Thanks
