I was thinking maybe STAND AT THE BACK, but I can't quite make it work.

But as Chambers gives 'occupy a position of defence' as the definition of STAND IN THE GATE, I'd say Problem Chimp is right!

Correct, Problem Chimp BUT Chambers gives "koala bear" under Koala ("also called koala bear or native bear"). Hope you'll let me off with a little "setters licence". Super solving chaps. Hope not too easy.
