Yes it was the water that had me thrown until I gave it a bit more thought. Though strictly speaking it's a water.......

Rocky, I've never paid the slightest attention to the subject, so was unaware of that subtlety. Had to think hard to recall anything to do with "water" and was proud of that. 🤣

No I'm far from an officianado myself. Hence the time taken to figure it out.

Late to this. I agree with what’s been said about the difficulty. Got stuck about 2/3 through, but then got moving again.

Agreed, definitely on the easier side. Completed in one sitting and with only a little help from the dictionary and missing letters tool. Very unusual for me.
18 was my LOI
Lots of anagrams which always helps me along. Some very neat clues, I especially liked all three of the split clues lining up in the grid.

very easy crossword, but I'm stuck on the last three. Progress has been hampered by having a guest staying and my back has gone for the second time in three weeks, so I've been in a lot of pain. I'm writing this with my lap top on my lap and a heated wheat bag behind my back.

Please can I have a hint for 4,23 and 10ac. Then I might be able to work out 18ac. I've read the thread, but am non the wiser about 18ac. On the plus side as a gardener, i am familiar with the plant in 25ac, but didn't know the language or the primate.

I got 4,23d and 10ac when I tried another avenue. I was annoyed because I googled types of 23d having guessed the word, but nothing helpful came up. Let's hope inspiration comes for 18ac. In the meantime, my FOI was11ac and my CODs 5ac, 13ac and 7d.

Held me up in bits but I thought it was fair.

Must have been easier than the norm for me to finish in one sitting. 18a the last and took a while but provided a moment of pleasure when I finally saw it ….. also thought 8d was a clever and elegant clue.
