I loved this. Found it tough though. I started it last night, made slow progress, picked it up this morning and have only just finished it now. I wasn’t helped by getting the wrong answer for 2, which messed me up for 13, but my answer for 2 doesn’t parse, so my fault. When will I learn?
FOI 3, LOI 5 (can anyone help with the parsing there?). Lots of COD candidates, but I’ll go with 20.

Davel, 5 was also my LOI. It’s 3 inside 3 with ‘to collar’ being the inclusion indicator.

Thanks jono. That’s how I parsed it, but I couldn’t see how the outside 3 worked. Just looked again, and had an immediate PDM!

I should say I looked again after seeing your post jono, having the confirmation of the 3 outside 3 definitely helped.

I'm stuck on 7d. Any gentle hints?

Got it. Bit puzzled by the use of "in". Also thinking of wrong kind of strips. I believe "Brute force" is term used by code crackers for plodding through all the combinations until something fits. Good job it was only six letters. Enjoyed this from Picaroon. I don't think I dislike any of the setters styles, though the variety is appreciated.

Very little of this is obvious to me. Only two on first read through. I think Picaroon is my nemesis. I think I just panic when I see the name. So any hints to get me started would be most helpful. I'm assuming the second short word in 19ac is where the refuse goes, assiming that is the definition. What about a hint for 13ac and 16d. I have no crossers.
