Alright, the voting is well under way. It looks like 10 setters with about 30 clues to choose from. With all those choices, perhaps it's no surprise that the 7 votes so far are distributed among 7 clues. The excitement is mounting. The tension is palpable. A host of other cliches. See you all back here later this Friday the 13th.

Thank you, BBM. I wasn't sure, but my feeling is anyone who posts a clue is welcome to vote. However, your vote has created a tie. Before we get to the awarding of prizes, let me just say that I thought all of the clues were tremendous. I would have had a very difficult time choosing just one to vote for.

Besides the clues that received votes, some others I liked were Buddy's tragic anagram to kick us off, which does indeed work today very well, along with Jono @7, as well as Jono's and Tyke's use of prime as definition (of course I would like that), Buddy's Roman numerals, and Spike's "one afternoon" device.

The rules require me to break the tie, so I am going with Jono @24 and his

One found on island has desire for life at first crushed by many small things (6)

Poetic indeed, as mattrom put it, and a bit of pathos as well. Congratulations, Jono, and apologies, Geeker. But everyone can enjoy the prizes.

The expected:

If Friday the 13th is your lucky day, the Mega Millions jackpot tonight is estimated at $1.3 billion.

Of course, all of us know the word triskaidekaphobia, but what about the public?

Congrats to all, a strong field of clues. Thanks to Mattrom and Buddy for the votes, Paul for the like, and to Darla for the adjudication and a fun challenge.

Mattrom, perhaps subconsciously you recognised that the clue works as a Haiku (ok, you might need to slur โ€˜manyโ€™ into one syllable).

Anyway, talking of poetry, WPR awaits!

Great clue Jion. Way above my pay grade. Are you a professional setter? Serious question. Thanks Darla.
Thanke for the vote Spike and the like Tyke. Very much appreciated particularly considering the breadth of quality clues on offer.
