UNKINDNESS was my first, so I had a pretty good guess what the theme was.

I was thrown for a bit because Google came up with "clattering" first for choughs.

Thanks Chris, yes, spot on. Some of the collective nouns are defined in Chambers (unkindness and murder), others have good support elsewhere. I agree chattering and clattering are a bit close. ‘Chatter’ is associated with magpies and waxwings in Chambers but not specifically linked to Choughs.
