Morning all. A remarkably easy start to the year.
COD is 5D - always enjoy a clever subtraction.
Thanks for all the hints.
Happy New Year, one and all from south Devon where it’s finally stopped raining.

i raised an eyebrow at 1d - is the abbreviation valid? 8d is straight gk.
i took ages to see how 9a worked.
cod 11a for me.

That was fun, easier than usual I thought. COD a toss up between 2 and 13.
Happy New Year everyone.

Good start to the year with an all correct solved . However
1d Don't think I've ever heard the vampiric characterdescribed that way.
7d Never heard of and it was a hopeful guess.
8d Had never heard of the two names
22d I'd pronounce the answer very differently from the way it is clued.

Indeed a gentle one with some nicely constructed clues and witty puns. I smiled at 8 which was a little more than GK as there was a clear twist. Glad it wasn’t too hard as I’m a little delicate after NYE!

Thanks all for having twisted minds like me every weekend. It wouldn’t be as much fun if I was battling in isolation (my husband refuses to contemplate cryptic crosswords) - looking forward to another year with your estimable company!

1d - Surely I can't be the only one who gyrated to the dance floor classic ????'s Back 😂

Loubyloo, you've never heard of Scooby Doo? 😲

Thinking about 1d, the reversal appears to be the name of the lead character in fairly large film franchise. If this is the intended reference then “vampiric character” perhaps works.

Ah, got it, thanks Loubyloo - I did wonder how anyone could possibly be unaware of Scooby and the gang:-)
