Hi Loubyloo10. 15: Try typing philosopher + the first five letters of your answer into a search engine.

Hi Loubyloo,
15a is first four letters of a six letter philosopher (hence twice failed) plus one letter from ‘piece of toast’. As Phil mentioned another philosopher does come to mind, but doesn’t quite work.

Really enjoyed this, some brilliant clues, and I loved the cleverness of the theme, BUT, I've yet to get 2 and 4. Any hints please?

Found the bottom half quite easy, and the top half more of a challenge, but spotting the theme halfway through certainly helped. Thanks Everyman.

Hi Julesvern,
2 is a homophone when spoken in a Glaswegian accent.
4 is a cryptic definition.

Hi Julesvern
Re 4d: focus on the first and last words of the clue, then take a wander down to the lower half of the grid. (It was my LOI too ... and now my COD.)

Doh! Just realised I had misspelt 11a so I had the wrong last letter for 2d. No wonder I couldn't get it! Very enjoyable.

Still none the wiser for 4d. Pretty sure all my crossers are correct for that.

No, it's a poor clue. PIG is just as valid for the second word.
