StrangelyNrown, thanks. Only Cubeb was new to me, and it is an interesting, odd-looking word, so I was quite pleased to meet it. I've never been to Liverpool, never known anyone from Liverpool, but have often heard or read about the stew, the word. Blastomere didn't strike me as 'awful', just a very medical-looking medical word!

The clue for LOBSCOUSE seems odd. Isn't "scouse" for a Liverpudlian derived from lobscouse?

Yes, ChrisE, it's rather clunky, inelegant. Maybe Lobscouse = LIverpudlian, with Lob, shy and Scouse, stew... but whatever way round, we're getting double dollops!
